Obituaries

I have conducted many funerals in my lifetime.  Each one had an obituary to read.  The following is one person’s imagination of what the obituary for Jesus might have looked like had there been a funeral for our Master.

OBITUARIES – Jerusalem 33 AD
Jesus Christ, 33, of Nazareth died Friday on Mount Calvary, also known as Golgotha, the place of the skull. Betrayed by one of his followers named Judas, Jesus was crucified by the Romans, by order of the Pontius Pilate, ruling King of Judea. The causes of death were extreme exhaustion, severe torture, and loss of blood.

Jesus Christ, a descendant of Abraham was a member of the house of David. He was the son of the late Joseph, a carpenter of Nazareth, and Mary, His devoted Mother. Jesus was born in a stable in the city of Bethlehem, Judea when his family had returned there for the great census of Caesar Augustus. He is survived by His mother Mary, 11 close friends that had been his followers and disciples, numerous acquaintances and many other followers that he had forgiven, taught, fed, healed, and some that he had raised from the dead..

Jesus was a brilliant man that confounded the wise in the temple from age 12.  He spent most of his adult life working as a Teacher. Jesus also occasionally worked as a Medical Doctor and it is reported that he healed many patients. Up until the time of His death, Jesus was teaching and sharing the Good News of the Kingdom of God, healing the sick, touching the lonely, feeding the hungry, and helping the poor.

Jesus was most noted for telling parables about His Father’s Kingdom and performing miracles, such as feeding over 5,000 people with only five loaves of bread and two fish, and healing a man who was born blind. On the day before His death, He held a Last Supper celebrating the Passover Feast, at which He foretold His death.

The Body of Jesus was quickly prepared for burial and buried in a stone tomb which was donated by Joseph of Arimathea, a loyal friend of the deceased.  By order of Pontius Pilate, the tomb was sealed with a Roman seal and Roman soldiers were put on guard to prevent grave robbers stealing the body.

The family has requested that everyone seek to know what Jesus taught and who He truly was so that they may come to have eternal life through Him.  It is the hope of the family that all mankind seek to live as Jesus did.  The family has requested that friends do what Jesus taught all men to do.  Perhaps you remember what He said,”Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit meIn as much as you did this unto one of the least, you did it unto Me.” In lieu of flowers, please give donations to the poor.  (Copied).
