What About Tomorrow?
Everybody has an opinion about the future. Some are charlatans. Some are highly respected because of the status they have attained in their chosen field. Others have a platform because of their entertainment, music, art, theatrical, or motivational speaking prominence. Whoever the person may be doing the speaking, when asked about the future, all have opinions. Some are fatalistic. Others are comical “on purpose” as a way of avoiding the inevitability of future issues. And, some are given great credibility because they are supported with trends that have been observed over a period of time. Eventually, every “prognosticator” will be confirmed as a visionary or a “voice” only.
Here are just a few predictions from the past……
Theoretically, television may be feasible, but I consider it an impossibility–a development which we should waste little time dreaming about. Lee de Forest, 1926, inventor of the cathode ray tube.
I think there is a world market for about five computers. Thomas J. Watson, 1943, Chairman of the Board of IBM.
We don’t think the Beatles will do anything in their market. Guitar groups are on their way out. Recording company expert, 1962.
More than at any time in history, mankind faces a crossroads–one path leading to despair and utter hopelessness, the other leading to total destruction. Let us pray we have the wisdom to choose correctly. Henry Kissinger, former Secretary of State, U. S. News and World Report, Jan. 9, 1989.
There is one voice that has given us very clear insight into what the future holds. The LORD GOD gave us His Word to let us know what we would see happening at this present time….. when men’s iniquity was more prevalent than man’s desire to know God and do His will. Jesus came to redeem us and to tell us what to expect when He is about to return. I believe His statements are about to be confirmed in our generation. Here is what the World’s most reliable source, the Son of God, said to expect “in our future”……
For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man…..But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. 37 For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, 39 and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 42 Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. (Matthew 24:27, 36-39, 42, 44). 27 For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done. (Matthew 16:27).
