Don’t Know Anybody Like Him

Most of us are just common folks.  That’s a good thing.  Those of us that are good, every day, down-to-earth kind of people are the backbone of our communities, nations, and the world.  Only a few in any generation are well known.  Only a very few people are exalted to a status in their field that they will be long remembered after their lifetime.

The Apostle Paul would write about the members of the church in Corinth that they were all of very common stock…..For consider your calling, brothers:  not many of you were wise according to worldly standards,3 not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise;  God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are…(1 Cor.1:26-28).

Occasionally, the LORD creates someone that has a most unusual gift.  They immediately rise above the rest of us in their abilities to sing, speak, paint, “create” things, play sports, play a musical instrument, make money, or in some other way that they achieve notoriety.  When that person is discovered, others very quickly flock to see and hear how wonderfully that person can do what they are able to do so easily.

However, in all of history, there is One that is truly unique among all others.  He is highly favored by God.  He has been from all eternity past and will reign until the age of the ages to come. His character is flawless.  His power is limitless. His wisdom is exhaustive. His grace is amazing.  And, His salvation is complete and sure for those that put their trust in Him.

We see the secret to the success of the Man Jesus. He saturated himself with the divine and consequently he excelled. Ultimately, you don’t need degrees, qualifications, or a good family name to excel. You need only Christ. Christ is enough! Christ is sufficient! Your excellence is found in Christ.

I believe we can model that same example and reflect His life in our lives. You are nobody until God saves you, fills you, and lives through you. How do you distinguish yourself in Christ? By immersing yourself in the totality of Christ. Subsumed, absorbed and completely enamored of Christ. Let Him be your all in all.

In Him is your life, your life is hidden in Him, He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature and for Him were all things created…..and He is before all things and by Him all things consist. He is the head of the body, the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, He has preeminence in all things….it pleased the Father that in Him all fullness should dwell. Now the beauty of all these is Christ is in us AND CHRIST IN US IS THE HOPE OF GLORY! (Colossians 1:15 -19; 27).

To be distinguished in Christ you need to be rooted, built up and established in the faith so that you can abound with thanksgiving/praise and you can ward off philosophies, vanity, and traditions of men after the rudiments of this world (Colossians 2: 7-8).
