Do You Know Dr. Matt Brooks?
Dr. Matt Brooks will be presented this Sunday, December 8, as the candidate that our Pastor Search Team has unanimously agreed to bring to us. I certainly agree with their choice and decision. Dr. Brooks is a very gifted pulpiteer, visionary leader, catalytic church growth leader, passionate and personal in his evangelistic fervor, and a man who does not compromise the Word of God.
The members of FBCBA and CBC were given a brochure about the Brooks last Sunday in the worship services. In case you were absent or have been so pressed for time that you have not had the chance to read the brochure, here are some fast facts about our next pastor.
Both Dr. Matt and Bren are “Okies” having grown up in our state. Matt attended Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa and graduated with a BA from East Central University in Ada. He received his seminary training at Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth (Master of Divinity) and Southeastern Seminary in Wake Forest, NC (Doctor of Ministry).
He has pastored three churches and most recently has served as a member of the Pastoral Leadership Team and Preaching Team at Prestonwood in Dallas. Each of the churches he has pastored has grown numerically, spiritually, and in their zeal to serve Jesus under his leadership. The reason for his success is his wise usage of the ability God gave him to see the needs of the church, address the things that could be implemented to correct “what’s not working”, coach the leaders to work as a team to engage the areas of need, and then encourage them to continually serve the LORD effectively so that all can rejoice when victories are won.
He has a tireless enthusiasm. From the first introduction, he is winsome and the kind of person that you like to be around. When he preaches, the zeal and power of the Holy Spirit are evident. His messages are expositional from Scripture. He is uncompromising when it comes to proclaiming God’s Word and living what he preaches. His evangelism skills are remarkable in the teaching and doing of reaching people for Christ. And, his love is for the church of the Lord Jesus so that all within the church are discipled, “fed” fresh bread from the table of the Lord, and they become ministers who have been equipped for the work which is the role of a pastor.
We have been united in our prayer for God to send us one of His very best servants to lead our church. The Search Team is to be commended for taking their work so seriously from the first moment they met until now. Each of those selected for the Search Team stated the realization of the awesome task that had been given to them in finding a man to lead the flock of God at FBC and CBC. That burden to seek and find God’s man pressed them to their knees in prayer and made every meeting strategic in discernment and in every decision. Thank you, Search Team! You have done your job exceedingly well.
So, today as you give God thanks for the work of our Search Team, please continue to pray for Matt, Bren, Major (9), Maggie Joy (7), Gracie Kate (5), and Tate (3), and a new baby to be born to the Brooks early in January
