The Dawning Of a New Day

Yesterday was a historic day at First Baptist Church, Broken Arrow, OK.  After 33 years of serving as pastor of this great church, FBCBA and CBC called a remarkable young man to lead us into the future. Dr. Matt Brooks accepted the call of God and the confirming vote of the church to assume that role.  Both Pastor Matt and Bren are “Okies” having grown up in our state.  Matt attended Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa and graduated with a BA from East Central University in Ada. He received his seminary training at Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth (Master of Divinity) and Southeastern Seminary in Wake Forest, NC (Doctor of Ministry).

Pastor Matt married the lady he met his first class of his first day in college who was from the town of Red Rock, OK.  He knew immediately that he had met that one special person that would share life’s journey with him. Bren is such a delightful person who is the love of his life.  They have four children: Major (9), Maggie Joy (7), Gracie Kate (5), and Tate (3), and a brand-new member of the family due to be born January 8!

Previously, Pastor Matt has pastored three churches and most recently has served as a member of the Pastoral Leadership Team and Preaching Team at Prestonwood in Dallas.   Each of the churches he has pastored has grown numerically, spiritually, and in their zeal to serve Jesus under his leadership.  The reason for his success is his wise usage of the ability God gave him to see the needs of the church, address the things that could be implemented to correct “what’s not working”, coach the leaders to work as a team to engage the areas of need, and then encourage them to continually serve the LORD effectively so that all can rejoice when victories are won.  His gifts are in preaching, evangelism, discipleship, and team building.

For those of you who were not able to be present for the service yesterday (December 8), I do hope you will take the time to see the service on our Live Stream at fbcba.org or fbcba live stream.  It was a most memorable day!  The house was packed, and the Spirit of God was evident from the first moment we entered the room.  The singing, times of prayer, the sermon, the announcement of the vote of God’s people confirming that Matt will be our new pastor…every single aspect was glorious.

Pastor Matt will officially begin the first of January 2020.  In the meantime, he will be preparing to move his family into a new home here, get packed up in Dallas to make the move, and make all of the necessary arrangements that must be done to start life in a new city. Pray for the Brooks’ family that all will go smoothly!

I want to commend the Pastor Search Team for the excellent manner in which they conducted their search.  From the very first, they were determined to seek the LORD for His guidance to direct them to His man to lead us.  They were wonderful ambassadors representing our church. Every step of the way, they kept the church informed.  And, as this weekend was being planned, every detail was covered in planning and preparation to make it a grand success.  Please take time to thank Don Thompson, Paul Abbott, Jimmy Carter, Haven Willis, David Smith, David Ross, and Tony Howerton for representing you and our LORD with such excellence.

To all of you as members of FBC and CBC…. Thank you for praying for this search process!  Now pray fervently for this exciting new beginning. Truly, the future is bright with the promises of God!
